The laundry room is often overlooked when renovating your home. Planning the layout with your “washing” routine is important when designing this space. My Mom’s motherly advice when starting a family was “Do a load of laundry when your day is hectic and you will feel like you have accomplished something.” I have always lived by these words and after 25 years of marriage, laundry is my first chore to start.

We have a busy family with an endless basket of laundry. We chose to install a large counter for folding and organizing each member’s piles. The washer and dryer fit perfectly underneath. I prefer to hang shirts and special pieces so the large bar between the end top cupboards is one of my favorite tools.
Special hangers will keep this space looking simple and stylish. Our garage has a large sink for messy jobs, all that was needed in our laundry room was a small sink for soaking or giving quick rinses. A rectangular laundry basket is a perfect fit for under our laundry chute.
Our home is over 40 years old, both the laundry room and guest bathroom were original. We now have a functional space with pleasant surroundings for the ongoing task of keeping the family’s garments clean and for guests to freshen up.
