I grew up watching my mom create fabulous meals in her kitchen, therefore, cooking is a favourite hobby of mine.  I love to spend the day fussing over meals for my family and my “special peeps”.  The layout of our kitchen was very functional but needed an update.  Out with the old, in with the new!

Choosing the main cupboard finish created conflict in our home.  Paulo insisted on a wood finish while I had another idea in mind.  To compromise, our supplier challenged me to pick any finish my heart desired and he would be up for the task.  I had recently purchased a small table for our guest bathroom with a raw wood finish manufactured in India.  I gave him the table to study and reproduce.  It took a few samples and some groans behind the scenes but he did not disappoint.  The “Alison” finish is now included in his collection.

We chose a stone gray quartz for the main counter and the seating overhang overlooking our family room.   This color was chosen to incorporate the vinyl floor selection.  One of my favorite functions in the kitchen is the apron sink.  Its size and simplistic look blend well with the quartz and wood finish.

We extended the centre island from the original square shape to rectangle with room for stools.  The quartz for the island is in contrast to the surrounding areas.  The combination with the vintage black base creates the look of a beautiful piece of furniture.  The pendant lights were chosen to bring out the modern country in this new space.
