My client wanted an open concept with lots of natural light. “Light and Bright” was our catch phrase with this project. The majority of the townhome was “gutted” and we had a clean slate to create a seaside escape.

For an open concept at the main level, the wall separating the kitchen, dining room and living room was taken out. The ceiling was reconstructed to remove a sunshine light in the kitchen and install pot lights throughout the area. French doors replaced a sliding glass window out to the deck along with a larger window on the same wall to capture as much natural light as possible.

Benjamin Moore’s Simply White was chosen for the main living area and all of the trim including doors. This strategy makes the room look bigger and attracts the eye to all of the features of the room. The kitchen cabinetry also took on Simply White making the “light and bright” scheme come true. Again, the cabinets were solid and their function along with the shape of the kitchen just needed an update with a couple of new appliances and the subtle lines of the quartz brought this space together. The island made for this space. The contrast of the charcoal grey and using a subtly different quartz color makes it a beautiful piece of furniture.

Benjamin Moore’s Palest Pistachio was chosen for the master bedroom and en suite. I like to choose a different color for the master to enhance the importance of this special room.

The flooring brings this “light and bright” space alive. I love the pattern in the wood as it brings the room together with its contrasting planks. The carpet in the master bedroom is my absolute favorite. Its contrast in color brings the wood of the furniture, massive closet and the soft paint color together creating a relaxing space with a little attitude which complements the personality of my client.

Together, my client and I went with an indigo color scheme for the furniture again throwing an edgy chair to the mix. Instead of buying new tables for the room and entrance, which were solid but needed a makeover, I had them painted gentle colors to go with the room.

The cabinetry in both guest bathroom and en suite were painted Simply White using a “tile” looking vinyl with all of the colors used in the townhouse. New tub and shower combo unit replaced the standard standing shower and standard tub. As a request of my client, we used large tiles for the walls of both showers and bath tub bringing a modern look to the space paired with the quartz chosen for the countertops.

There are still art pieces to be purchased, which will happen as we find special pieces that “bring meaning” to this space. A very exciting project from start to finish with an extremely satisfied client and designer.
